The year 2014 is reaching its end and the project “5 STUDIES FOR NATURE” of Finnish company Nikari in collaboration with universities is finishing. The fifth and final study comes from Stockholm, Sweden. The STOCKHOLM study is a stool, designed by the second year industrial design student Jari Devad. The Swedish part of the project was organised as a competition by the university Konstfack.

After traveling around the world - from Aalto University, Helsinki to GDUT Guangdong, China; Sheridan college in Toronto, Canada and Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy, Nikari has headed back to north.

In his proposal, Jari has embraced the expression of traditional Swedish wood carving, mastered by Axel Robert Petersson. By using 3D modeling as a technique for exploring forms that look like they were made by hand, he bridges the gap between physical and virtual media.

STOCKHOLM study is made of dark walnut, which emphasizes the shapes and shadows of the stool surface.

All the studies will be for sale as “NIKARI 5 STUDIES FOR NATURE” collection from now on. Part of the sales profit will be donated to protect the forests’ biodiversity globally through WWF Finland.

The whole collection will be shown to the public next time during the Stockholm Design Week in February 2015.
