The idea of MODULAR shelves is based on Gestalt principles. Gestalt is originally a German word meaning “essence or shape of an entity's complete form”. Gestalt psychology states that the human eye sees objects in their entirety before perceiving their individual parts, suggesting that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. MODULAR shelves, designed by Reinier de Jong, consist of uniform storage modules which can be grouped in various configurations.

MODULAR relates to gestalt in that the configuration creates additional storage space in between the modules making it physically and functionally greater than the sum of its parts. The edging of the modules generates a superimposed visual pattern of its own emphasizing the entirety of the configuration over the individual modules.

MODULAR is a shelving system with only one type of module but it offers a multitude of possibilities: It provides storage space within but also between the modules. Stack the modules vertically, horizontally or both. You can also stack the modules upright (maximum 4 high) to create a stand-alone shelving tower. MODULAR has four possible shelf heights ranging from 24 to 40 cm. We can offer customized parts within the modular system to accommodate a TV or other large items that do not fit within the regular modules.

The modules stay in place simply by detachable dowels, hidden between them. Expand your shelving set one by one whenever you are ready to order more.

The price per block is 99 EUR (excluding VAT & shipping). For a set of 12 (like the ones on the studio photo's) the total price is 1188 EUR (excluding VAT & shipping).
