Fritz Hansen resurrected the iconic Pot Chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960

The Pot was first launched by Fritz Hansen in 1960 together with the iconic Egg™, Swan™ and Drop™ chair, all designed by Arne Jacobsen for the SAS Royal hotel. The Pot served as a social focal point in both the Orchid bar and the astonishing Winter Garden, and as a meeting point on each floor next to the elevator. But for some reason the Pot never got the same recognition as the rest of the collection and soon it was taken out of production. That is, until now.

With improved comfort, modern materials and available in new playful fabrics the Pot returns in better shape than ever. The low, comfortable lounge chair embraces everyone who sits in it without ever taking over the room. The Pot is modern yet timeless and it is an Arne Jacobsen original.

“The Pot is the forgotten chair, which deserves a relaunch. I see the chair as one of Jacobsen's quieter and floating designs - almost like a leaf in the air. The chair is surprisingly comfortable and spacious and the slightly modified 2018 version of the Pot is a compliment to Arne Jacobsen's more modest design style and a beautiful example of less is more.” Christian Andresen, head of design, Fritz Hansen.

The Pot is dressed in Capture, a fabric with an almost tweed-like texture. Fritz Hansen Colours is a new palette of colours created exclusively for Republic of Fritz Hansen™ by the in-house design team. Discover the serene pale pink, the warm and earthy terracotta orange and finally the deep ocean blue. The palette represents the Fritz Hansen objective of aiming to be timeless yet being relevant in time. The colours are simple without being dreary and they are contemporary without being faddish. Fritz Hansen Colours emerged from a journey through mood boards followed by mixing and matching different threads to end up with the perfect trinity of appealing tones.

The base for the Pot comes in brown powder coating or chrome.

THE COLLABORATION

The collaboration between Fritz Hansen and Arne Jacobsen dates back to 1934. A prolific designer, Arne Jacobsen created numerous pieces for Fritz Hansen, many of which come in almost endless varieties today. One aspect common to all his furniture is a distinct design language that reveals a perfectionist's touch and an always-innovative approach.

With the opening of the SAS Royal Hotel in 1960, Arne Jacobsen presented a true Gesamtkunstwerk - the German expression for a total or ideal work combining several art forms. The hotel project deeply influenced Arne Jacobsen as a furniture designer, heralding the beginning of a long series of iconic furniture works - most of them still in the Republic of Fritz Hansen collection today.

The Pot will be in store from May 1st 2018.
