BCN Design Week 2013 closes its doors with over 6,000 visitors and the participation of 1,500 companies and professionals

Last June 21 the doors of the eighth BCN Design Week were closed, the annual event in the sphere of design, innovation and entrepreneurship organized by BCD Barcelona Design Centre, which from 11 to 21 June brought together professionals, companies, organizations and the general public, in order to enjoy a multidisciplinary programme with a total of 70 activities.

The eighth BDW acquired particular significance due to the celebration of BCD's 40th anniversary, a milestone that was used to look to the future through design with the aim of finding answers to the questions and the challenges that society will have to face in the coming decades in spheres such as consumption, habitat, health and ecodesign. With this objective, and with the slogan Design Vision 2050, BDW opened its 8th edition in the city with the aim of bringing design, innovationa nd entrepreneurship closer to all areas of the public.

From 11 to 21 June
For the first time, BCN Design Week was held in June, lasting 11 days and launching the third Barcelona Design Festival, which will be held this year from 11 June to 11 July. Another new development in this year's BCN Design Week is that a large part of the activities were held in the facilities of the Disseny Hub Barcelona, the new reference design space in Barcelona.
The most important activities from the programme this year included the Congress “Leading Businesses towards 2050” with the participation of renowned international experts; EcoDesign Day, the Creative Industries Investment Forum of the Design Ideas Market (MID), and the Design Services Market.
Guest Country: Netherlands
Once again, BCN Design Week had a guest country which participated actively in the programme of this year's event. Under the name “Guest Country: Netherlands“, various activities were organized to present the current state of design in that country, to share knowledge and generate business opportunities between local and Dutch companies and professionals. The exhibitions included “Dutch Bike“, “Zitten by Piet Hein Eek” and “Urban Living Room“, the first of which will remain opento the public until 25 July.
BDW opens up to the city
This year, BCN Design Week broadened its scope to reach a wider public. In addition to organizing activities aimed at companies and professionals, this year's programme included events such as the BDW Kids workshops for children, the BDW Labs - activities on different themes intended for the general public and organized by member companies of the BCD Business Club - the BDW Circuits - routes with visits of several points of the city's design sector -, and different exhibitions. Moreover, for the first time BDW had a BDW OFF programme with 40 parallel activities organized by companies, organizations and other agents from the city.
Closing event with the Pecha Kucha Design Night
BCN Design Week closed its doors in the Old Estrella Damm Brewery with the Pecha Kucha Design Night, a creative interdisciplinary encounter in a space of interaction in which 10 creatives from Barcelona showed their most inspiring projects.
This activity concluded a new BCN Design Week which contributed to encouraging an exchange of knowledge and business opportunities between companies and professiosals, bringing design closer to the general public, and promoting the Barcelona brand in the world linked to concepts such as creativity, design, innovation and entrepreneurship.
