Under the slogan ‘Design is Here!’, the ninth edition of the Barcelona Design Week delved deep into design, entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity with a wide programme of activities such as conferences, exhibitions, workshops, presentations, circuits and networking activities.

The most important activities from the programme this year were the conference ‘Entrepreneurship according to Ron Arad’, the Design Services Market, the Ecodesign Day, the Investment Forum of the Creative Industries, the session ‘Management of a city brand image’, the premiere of ‘We Pop Up: the documentary’, the Design Circuit Poblenou, 6 Workshops BDW (activities about diverse topics organised by design studios) and the exhibition ‘Out of the Box - Design made in Israel’, that can be visited until August 31 at Disseny Hub Barcelona.

The programme was completed with the OFF BDW, with over 40 parallel activities organized by entities, businesses and shops that opened the BDW to the city.

Also in this edition, the main activities of the BCD Design Week were held in the facilities of the Disseny Hub Barcelona, the new headquarters of BCD, a new facility which will be consolidated as the reference space for design in the city.

Israel, Guest Country

One of the main attractions of Barcelona Design Week 2014 was the special participation of Israel as the guest country. This was a great opportunity to show the creative and innovative potential of this country, and to facilitate synergies and business opportunities with professionals and companies in Barcelona.

BDW 2014 included a full programme of activities under the initiative ‘Guest Country: Israel’, organised in collaboration with the Design Museum Holon and the Embassy of Israel in Spain. ‘Guest country: Israel’ was focused on creative entrepreneurship and innovation, two strategic areas for both Israel and Barcelona.

By taking part in Barcelona Design Week 2014, Israel joined Austria (2011), Sweden (2012) and the Netherlands (2013) as guest country, a unique opportunity to show its creative and entrepreneurial potential within an international event, as well as enhancing business and institutional links with Barcelona.
