We Bistrot, the new vintage restaurant in the heart of Barcelona where not lacking in detail

A few meters from the Arc de Triomf, We Bistrot raised the blind in 2017 opening its doors to the heart of a busy city to become a meeting point where you can pause, eat and be. Recovering the essence of Can Framis, a 19th century grocery store in the neighborhood of Sant Pere, We Bistrot is reborn in the same enclave with the philosophy of offering a fresh, Mediterranean and balanced cuisine with winks to international cuisine, in a delicious design environment.

The local interior design project, led by the architect Luca Pizzolorusso and conceived by its owners, Lorenzo Fragola and Fernando Pérez Pradells, is the perfect combination of conservation and recovery with a contemporary avant-garde design identified in the furniture and reconditioned vintage pieces, the work of the artisan Germano Marchetti, and other details that can be discovered visit after visit.

The biggest element that connects with the old Framis grocery store is the wooden shelving structure, which has been restored and part of which has been moved to its open kitchen, connecting the old interior warehouse with the restaurant as a giant window. The wooden structure that housed all the food and preserves has been intervened with the installation of mirrors to which an aging effect has been applied to temporarily and visually level with the nineteenth century origin of the furniture.

The care of the details is so high that a small star, typical of the late nineteenth century, has been included in the corners of each mirror to achieve even more similarity and integration with the original structure. Some of the decorative objects and antiques that now occupy the shelves and the rest of the premises come from a historic villa on the island of Sicily supplemented with selected items in France.

The wall of the old warehouse, where the hams were kept suspended for conservation, has been returned to its original state, without adding any type of paint, only applying a primer and sealing treatment. In addition, during the recovery process, the technique of the sculpted trompe l’oeil was discovered on the wall of the main area, with floral drawings typical of the modernist period, of which a part is preserved in view, honoring the origin of the establishment. The central bar, inspired by Art Deco, is made of ivory combined with Brazilian wood and aged brass.

The central piece is translucent onyx and has a lighting control system that includes different color options, which adapt to each moment of the day. The tables are also made by hand and the marble has been treated with an acid to achieve a texture with relief of pleasant touch and less cold. This same marble has been installed on the front wall of the kitchen and cornices around the wooden structure transported. For the kitchen tiles, a model inspired by the Paris Metro has been chosen in a light gray tone to increase the sense of spaciousness. The lamps on the bar are from Flos and to illuminate each individual table a suspended accessory has been chosen, designed by Mark Anderson for Laura Meroni. It is worth mentioning the careful treatment of the adjustable perimeter indirect light, which adapts its intensity according to the moment and environment.

As for the chairs, it has been decided to recover an original model from the 1950s, edited by the Italian firm Doro, brought from Milan. The fabrics chosen to upholster the chairs and the backrest of the benches are from Gancedo 1945. The design of the backrest has been designed by the architect Pizzolorusso. Under this slogan of recovery of original elements of the old grocery store, during the process of construction of the bistro gas lamps were found and some of them have been included in the decoration of the premises. Of those that have been removed, the support that supported them has been maintained and this acts as a unique decorative and unique accessory.

The main floor is composed of hydraulic tile recovered from the same period and installed by the recovery studio of ancient architecture Otranto. The floor of the corridor corresponds to the original of the place. The hall cupboards have been built with restored doors from other parts of the grocery store.
All this combined with a careful menu with dishes cooked at the moment in your kitchen at sight that, like a good bistro, a popular restaurant that offers traditional local and foreign dishes at a good price, opens every day and presents a complete offer for any moment and public. A perfect space also to watch on your terrace and interact at any time of the day.
