The piece of work ‘Snail’ by José Lopez Gimenez has won the First Actiu Photography Competition. Juan Francisco Poveda, with ‘Reverstairwork’ has won second Prize and Damian Berbegal has won third prize with his piece of work ‘Looking to the Future’. The judges made up of professionals from the world of photography, design and architecture, made a preliminary selection of 30 entries out of more than 250 entries submitted, which will form part of the exhibition.

The judges, after several hours of deliberation, said that it was very difficult to make a selection due ‘to the high level of pieces submitted’ and gratulated all the participants ‘for their effort and work’. The components that the judges evaluated were ‘formal technique, plasticity of the image and the symbolism of the idea’ and the result achieved in the interpretation of the concept of identifying Actiu Technological Park.’

José López Giménez, who won the second prize, showed his surprise at hearing the judge's decision and expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to photograph Actiu facilities ‘I hope that the company will continue this initiative in future editions’. I was there for more than two hours taking photographs and if I could return I would take more completely different, it is wonderful for anyone who loves photography’ he said after receiving his award.

The spiral staircase that heads the corporate building from the Technological Park was undoubtedly the main source of inspiration for more than one hundred participants. Of the five awards given, three free form and two locals, only one of them had a different theme to the wonderful staircase. The participants took advantage of the play of lights and shapes of this unique architectural element to perform their visual compositions.

The judges are formed of Belén Paya, a prestigious illustrator, recently selected for the Annual Graphic Design Award 2012 for her catalogue ‘Fashion Forms’ as one of the ten best catalogues edited in Spain 2011. Inma Juan, a photographer specializing in social reports, industrial and architectural photography. Enrique Carrazoni, a reference on the world of architecture and landscape photography; he has worked with architects such as Norman Foster, Santiago Calatrava, J.M.Tomas and Aqua Gallery. José Maria Tomás Llavador, International projects architect such as The Master Plan for the City of the Arts and Sciences in Valencia, The waterfront in Spezia, Italy, The exhibition centre IFA in Alicante....and author of Actiu Technological Park. Marcelo Martínez, photographer and author of numerous works regarding work spaces and collective spaces.

Actiu wanted to convey through this initiative, its commitment to the promotion of design, architecture and art, choosing this time the vehicle of photography. From 26 May until 8 June, more than one hundred artists have visited the facilities at Actiu International Park. The result was 260 pieces of work (each person could enter up to five photos)in which they captured every corner from their own point of view; work environment, architecture, gardens and nature, sustainability...; a response to hundreds of applications received from amateurs and professionals from the world of photography, interested in photographing the facilities at the Technological Park, recognised as the first European industry certified by LEED Gold by the U.S. American Green Building Council, which certifies this building as sustainable and self-sufficient in resources.
