Announced the Rado Star Prize Spain 2020 shortlist

Nine finalists have been selected by a panel of design industry professionals and will be displaying their concepts at Madrid Design Festival from February 12 to 15th

Rado, the Swiss watch brand linked to the world of design, is very proud and excited to announce the third edition of the Rado Star Prize Spain which will take place during Madrid Design Festival and aims to promote up-and-coming designers, giving them a platform to show their work

The winner of the Rado Star Prize 2020 will be selected by a panel of design industry professionals that, previously, will select the finalists. The winner will receive €5000 in prize money and a Rado watch. The winner and finalists will have the opportunity to display their concepts at Rado Lounge in Madrid during Madrid Design Festival February 2020. An additional Public Vote Winner will be selected by visitors to Rado Lounge in the COAM. The winner will receive a Rado watch.

Jury of Rado Star Prize Spain 2020 includes designers Gala Fernández, Ramón Úbeda, Guillermo Santomá, Inma Bermúdez and Hakim El Kadiri, Product Development Manager at Rado.

Finalists

MOMMY, JUQUETE ARQUITECTÓNICO (Jessenia Jaén Guerrero)
Mommy is an architectural toy that looks that looks forward to freeing the players imagination, allowing them to create abstract forms of different animals through the addition of pieces.

DRAMA (Víctor Valera Rodriguez)
Drama reflects a fiction, a story that is modulated to achieve an infinity of interpretations, a direct dialogue with the environment and the user. It is a lamp of 240x350mm that uses an electromagnetic field to induce an electric flow, making it possible to transmit energy wirelessly.

MOCHI (Yu Ling Wan)
TaiChi is one of the most meaningful Chinese cultural thoughts, which represents optimal balance and a deep state of fulfillment.

PAISAJE (Alberto Lázaro Blanco)
“Paisaje” is conceived as a fantasy, a piece based on a fictional natural space. The creation is shaped as a Turkish-knot carpet in multiple colours and materials.

SILLA CORME (Víctor Vilar San José)
The aim of this project is to relocate a craft sector that is in danger of extinction. The ‘Rederas’ is a job dedicated to make and repair the fishing nets in the Galician Coast.

CANDELA (Sergio Rodriguez Casado)
No other electrical source of light has ever got to give us the same warmth as the genuine flame. Candela gives us a pure flame which lights, perfumes and protects the environment from flying insects during summer.

SESTRELO (Manuel González Rodríguez)
Sestrelo, is a low table that can also works as a seat. The idea of ”Sestrelo” comes from the original word “setestrelo”, which in the Galician culture, is the name of the constellation of the “Great Bear “, with its seven well marked stars. Unlike this, in our work we play in every moment with six-pointed stars, which makes a play on words to obtain “sestrelo”.

MATERIALES BIOBASADOS (Isaac Cores Irago)
BIO-BASED MATERIALS is a research project on materials obtained from biomass. The objective is to investigate an alternative to conventional materials that often have a great negative impact on the environment.

CO-HÁBITAT URBANO (Samuel Hurtado)
‘Co-habitat’, is a piece of street furniture made by digital sculpture and manufactured almost entirely with acrylic stone. A space for coexistence between people and plants that serves as an example that something new can be built without destroying what already exists.
