House Habitat has recently handed over a magnificent biopassive home in Sant Pere de Vilamajor, in the province of Barcelona. It comprises 140 m2, distributed on two floors and has 3 bedrooms, including one en suite, 2 bathrooms, a toilet, and a split level living and dining area that integrates the kitchen and a utility room.

The house, which is made of natural or sustainable materials, blends in perfectly with its setting, nestling at the feet of the Montseny massif. It features a laminate timber structure prefabricated in the workshop and a ventilated façade with a grey tanalised timber finish that gives both character and a unique appearance to this home, in line with the wooded area that surrounds it.

RGA Arquitectes’ decision to opt for a wood building system for this project partly stems from the desire to generate minimum CO2 levels, as well as guaranteeing a significant reduction in energy requirements, optimising comfort levels and thermal efficiency, whilst also cutting work waste and construction deadlines.

The result is a modern and functional home and a project that has prioritised the maximum use of wood. For instance, a laminated structure was used for the ground floor, with 240 millimetre insulation. This natural material was also used for the façade fencing. Two-tone laminated wood with a double-glazed low emission and solar controlled glass was chosen for the exterior carpentry. Furthermore, in order to enhance the thermal efficiency, wood fibre insulation was installed.

The home's heating and cooling system uses via aerothermal pipes, as well as mechanical ventilation with an energy recovery system that not only guarantees optimum air quality for health, but also contributes to energy savings.

House Habitat's biopassive homes ensure maximum Passivhaus standard energy efficiency levels or nearly zero energy buildings thanks to its commitment to the use of wood as a key element and only natural or sustainable materials that respect both people's health and the environment.
