The Sleep Event Europe, which took place on 22, 23 and 24 November, received a record number of attendees* with a 11% rise on last year - confirming the show as the premier destination for all those involved in the global design, development and investment of hotels.

The event comprised a high-end exhibition, top-level conference and prestigious awards ceremony: The European Hotel Design Awards, which took place on 22 November with over 840 people in attendance; 128 more than the previous year.

The next day, The Sleep Event Exhibition and Conference opened at the Business Design Centre, Islington. The event housed over 150 hand-picked exhibitors who all showcased the latest in luxury bathrooms, creative lighting, bespoke furniture and innovative technology.

The show's design-led focal piece, the Sleepotel, returned for the third year, bigger and better than ever. Visitors to this unique space stepped into another world of design, where exclusive collaborations from leading interior designers and architects such as Montage and rare architecture brought to life their vision for the hotel of the future. A truly unforgettable experience of the Sleepotel was a visit to the exclusive Sleeper Magazine bar, a stunning space created by Graven Images and Ligne Roset, where cocktails and coffee were served throughout the duration of the show.

Gemma Butler, Brand Director, commented on the event's positive outcome: “We’re extremely pleased to have welcomed so many visitors to this year's event. An area of the show that is unrivalled is our content, such as the Sleepotel, Conference and Seminar Theatre and it's something we continually develop to ensure that our visitors remain inspired and are able to discover the latest industry developments when they visit the show.

“Our increase in visitors only strengthens our position as Europe's leading show for the high-end hotel design industry and perfectly positions us to expand our brands into international territories such as our launch into India this year with the Sleep Event Conference India and our expansion into China in 2012 with the Sleep Event China being incorporated into the established Hotelex.”

Returning for the second year were the Product Innovation Awards, where the most innovative products in the hotel design industry were on display. This year's winner was Grohe for their Digital range, which the judges felt deserved the prize for designing a truly innovative bathroom solution.

The Sleep Event Conference provided a bespoke programme presented by internationally-renowned figures, tailored to address the hotel industry's current figures, future trends and investment opportunities. New formats were delivered at the conference with day two beginning with the Round Tables, which were led by Daniel Englender, managing director of Benjamin West. A welcome departure from the standard networking event, key senior executives from the industry such as Irene Hoek, vice president development of IHG and Tim Smith, director of HVS moved from table to table where eager attendees were waiting to discuss the latest issues.

The Sleep Event Europe will return from 21-22 November 2012
