Interzum 2013: “Textile & Machinery” piazza featuring an attractive series of lectures accompanying the “Upholstery & Bedding” workshop
interzum 2013, the world's leading trade fair for furniture production and interior finishing opens its doors to visitors in Cologne on 13th May. interzum has expanded the Textile & Machinery segment by two exciting event areas on the subject of textile trends: The realistic textile production line in hall 10.1 demonstrates how leather is fashioned into a car seat, and the “Textile & Machinery” piazza in hall 10.2 offers an interesting series of lectures to accompany the “Upholstery & Bedding” workshop. interzum, the world’s largest fair for materials for the furniture building and interior design industries is due to get underway in around four weeks. In addition to 1,500 exhibitors, more than 52,000 visitors from all over the world are expected between 13th and 16th May 2013. The visitors in turn can look forward to a cross-section of the industry the likes of which can only be found in Cologne, complemented by an informative supporting programme. In the Textile & Machinery segment, interzum will be showcasing fascinating textile-related themes in two event areas: In hall 10.1, a textile production line for the manufacturing of a car seat will be reproduced on an area measuring 1,500 square metres. Things are slightly more theoretical, but no less interesting on the “Textile & Machinery” piazza in hall 10.2: The “Upholstery & Bedding” workshop programme comprises a total of nine lectures. The programme kicks off at 3.00 p.m. on the first day of the fair with a lecture on the latest test procedures for mattresses by Dr Ulrich Leifeld, Managing Director of the Professional Association of the Mattress Industry. There are three lectures on the agenda on both Tuesday and Wednesday, starting in each case at 11.30 a.m., 1.30 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. Tuesday’s speakers include Daniel Tigges from Eco-Institut GmbH, Henning Bloech from UL Environment and upholstery specialist Winfried Titze. Wednesday’s lectures will be held by surface specialist Gerd Ohlhauser, Sebastian Bruder from Expert Systemtechnik and Outlast’s Dirk Keunen. The closing lectures on Thursday will be held by Yvonne Heinen-Foudeh from Gerber Technologies and Markus Tutsch from STS-Textiles. The “Textile & Machinery” piazza doesn’t just beckon visitors to listen attentively; it’s also an ideal place to relax. The lecture area, right next to a catering service, is surrounded by lounge furniture. Many manufacturers from the Textiles & Machinery segment will be showcasing their development highlights for the first time at the interzum 2013; among them Bekaert Textiles, who will be presenting an entirely new textile technology in hall 10.2. In 2011, the Belgian company was able to welcome guests from 62 nations to its stand and anticipates an equally successful influx of international visitors this year. At its stand in hall 9.1, Bäumer will be presenting a vertical and horizontal contour cutting machine linked with a robotic handling system. “This is the first time foam cutting machines have been combined with a robotic handling system, making this application a world premier,” reports Elisabeth Steuber, Marketing Manager at Bäumer. “Not just the software, but also the hardware in the form of different handling systems, like our robotic system for instance, are following this trend of automation in the furniture and mattress industry.” According to Project Manager Matthias Pollmann, “The combination of an informative piazza, the textile production line and nearly 400 exhibiting companies will guarantee a fascinating overall package in the Textile & Machinery segment. This attractive presentation of the textile world shows that interzum is the world’s only supplier fair to comprehensively cover all aspects of furniture production.” This year, the interdisciplinary conference fair InnoMateria will take place in hall 11.2 to coincide with interzum. Besides lightweight and other material-focused key themes on contemporary mobility, further programme highlights include the production, storage and transformation of energy along with sustainable energy supply and use. The materials in interiors and design themes are also new. With the trade congress and accompanying exhibition, InnoMateria has become an interdisciplinary communications platform for innovative materials. The two event days, running in parallel on 14 and 15 May 2013, will provide a perfect opportunity at interzum for inter-industry dialogue in one location.
