P. Cutajar is a long established FMCG importation company. They supply some of the world biggest brands like Lavazza, Martini, Kinder etc around all Malta and Gozo.

Due to the parallel importation problem the company over the last few years have invested more money on the experience of the service they offer and their aftersales. For this particular reason they have also developed an in house store concept, named The Store. This warehouse outlet objective is not only to sell products but also to serve as a nice showroom for the company. This is where Daaa Haus comes in. We were approached to come up with an attractive concept that is functional yet chic and modern to represent the new spirit of the company.

The idea behind the designs for the store was to create an urban chic shopping experience that is easy to manage and durable for the amount of goods that are moved. Space was divided according to the four main areas of business, mainly; wines, spirits, coffee and confectionary. To achieve this we felt it would be effective to split the shop through floor split levels using different materials and still keeping an open plan for upselling and cross promotion.

On approaching the store the first eye catching feature is the centre of the store which is made up of an elevated, colourfully tiled platform with tree red bucket style pendant lights hanging over a bespoke industrial working / display table. This high table is elegantly dressed with tree Copenhagen Hay stools on each side and a clean, minimal island kitchen counter complete with coffee machines and sink. This is the inviting social aspect we tried to implement into the concept of the retail experience. This section gives room to cocktail training classes, wine and coffee tasting sessions as well as casual meetings with clients. A social happening place in the heart of the store.

All surrounding walls of the shop are lined from floor to ceiling with bespoke, clean, minimal white shelving. and light oak edging. A long red ladder slides across the aisle making the full length of the double volume storage height accessible. The clean design for the shelving was purposely planned, retaining the main focus on the product itself.

For the wine, Daaa Haus wanted to add a bit of more vintage charm. This was achieved through a floating shop in shop wooden oak box - directly linked with wooden wine boxes and oak barrels.

The fourth area of the shop is the open floor space; finished in an industrial style concrete floor with dynamic, freestanding, playful shelving. The main feature here was flexibility. The boxes are modular and stackable allowing the shopkeeper the freedom to move and update the store from time to time.
