The new FAINA collection by Yakusha Design Studio at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair: Ethnic minimalism, simplicity and modernity

If we had to choose the definition that would perfectly describe the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2018 , it would be a festival of aesthetic design. Over 30,000 square meters were dedicated to design trends and innovations that will soon enter our daily life.

One of that newest design trends - ethnic minimalism - was brought to the fair by FAINA Collection, the creation of Yakusha Design Studio, which has been presented at Stockholm Design Week for the first time, in front of more than 40,000 professionals from 60 different countries.

Ethnic minimalism is a modern lifestyle that encourages to drive deeper into the cultural heritage and to strive for simplicity and a thrifty attitude to nature. So, in search of inspiration, the author of the collection, the Ukrainian Victoria Yakusha conducted a study of the domestic traditions of her ancestors - forms, materials, and craft techniques, starting from 5-3 millennia BC from the days of Trypillia and the Scythian civilization.

Thus, the main elements of the ethnic collection are clay, felt, willow, flax, and wood. All of these express the concept of “live design” - design that combines the energy of eco materials and the simplicity of ancestor's lifestyle.

It is therefore not surprising that FAINA Collection has attracted the attention of fans of minimalism and admirers of modern Scandinavian interiors from all over the world at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2018. They had unique opportunity to touch live clay of the cabinet Solod facade, marvel at the overflow of the light from the giant willow lamp Strykha, and sit on the most ironic chair Toptun in fashionable terracotta color.

“We decided to create an honest design - every element, each object of which is natural, ecological, and unique,” - emphasizes Victoria Yakusha. “Traditional natural materials and handmade are the main features of our concept of “live design.”
