Backstage, Jaime Hayon

For the first time in Spain, an individual exhibition of the designer Jaime Hayon (Madrid, 1974) is presented. The exhibition, curated by Ana Domínguez Siemens, offers the opportunity to approach the creative process of the designer through his most representative works.

As the curator explains, “this exhibition shows some of the works that (the designer) has made both for artistic installations and for companies for which he has designed products but does not want to be a simple catalog of furniture and objects“. However, this show also seeks to show the lesser known side of the production process of Hayón, as well as to show the hidden side of that same process, evidencing the references and sources of inspiration of the designer. In this way the “special predilection for noble materials such as wood, glass or ceramics and the exhaustive knowledge of artisanal production will be visible, in which he places special interest in a personal commitment to revitalize and not let traditional manual techniques die that are in danger of extinction and for which he feels a great respect“.

The appliances of our life. A history of design

The exhibition, curated by Andrés Alfaro, presents the historical evolution of the domestic appliance since the early twentieth century, through the most significant pieces grouped by functions: conservation, preparation and cooking of food, cleaning, air conditioning, personal hygiene, entertainment and communication.

The chronological journey of the objects allows to appreciate the rapid technological evolution that they have experienced and, at the same time, the importance that the design has been acquiring with time until becoming, above the utility, in its main attraction.

The exhibition presents the impact of technology at home based on advances in innovation and design. A visit to our recent daily history among refrigerators, stoves, blenders, kettles, toasters, washing machines, irons, vacuum cleaners, record players, radios, televisions or telephones.

Masters of the Musical graphic design
Vinilygráfica

The history of popular music shows that genres such as jazz, blues, rock and roll, pop, psychedelia, glam, punk, soul, disco, hip-hop, indie pop, electronic or any of the more fleeting sub-genres developed in the last 80 years are not only music, but also image; and before the popularization of the video clip on channels such as MTV or Internet portals such as YouTube, that image had its most perfect embodiment (apart from the artists’ own appearance) on the covers of cardboard covers of 7″, 10″ and 12″ that protected the vinyl records.

The Vinilygráfica exhibition, curated by Francisco Javier Panera, tries to trace a genealogy of the relationships between graphic design and pop music, through a careful selection of more than 200 record covers published from 1940 to the present, claiming the figure, often unknown, of the art directors and designers who are behind the main record labels.
